Many brokers hoping to break away are hitting a roadblock: COVID-19. A new study finds that while the pandemic hasn't necessarily changed their plans, it sure has delayed them. TD Ameritrade Institutional surveyed 120 experienced advisors working at broker-dealers. 30 of them had ambitions to run their own business someday. That's fairly consistent with results from the prior survey six months ago. However, only about a third of those brokers believed they would be able to go independent within the next year.
