As a member of the fixed income division, a key question, I think, for clients is do their fixed income portfolios do what they want them to do, particularly in distressed markets? There's been a huge amount re-risking in fixed income, and I think a key question our clients should be asking themselves, can the current fixed income allocation play the role that traditional fixed income has done in the past? Can it be uncorrelated to equities? Can it be a hedge against deflation? If the answer is to these questions are no, then they really need to re-think how they're taking risks in fixed income.
